When you come to see us for your first visit at one of our practice locations in Pocatello and Blackfoot, your oral surgeon will work with you to a create a treatment plan for your extraction and, if you wish, discuss restoring your smile with a lifelike tooth restoration such as a dental implant.

We perform safe and expert tooth extractions in the comfort of our welcoming Pocatello and Blackfoot offices with multiple anesthesia options to ensure you are comfortable and at ease. Unless the extraction is complex, we use local anesthesia for extractions. During the procedure, you will be conscious and aware during treatment but will not feel any sensation of pain. If you tend to feel anxious during dental procedures, please let us know — our doctors are dedicated to your well-being and can provide you with additional options for your anesthesia, such as in-office intravenous (IV) sedation or sedation dentistry for our patients who may be feeling anxious about their procedure.

Why Do I Need To Have a Tooth Removed?

Your tooth may need to be extracted if:

Tooth Extraction Procedure

Prior to your tooth extraction, you'll have a consultation with Dr. Baker or Dr. Jepsen. During this appointment, he will evaluate your oral health and discuss the most suitable anesthesia options for you. While local anesthesia is typically sufficient for straightforward extractions, IV sedation may be recommended for more complex cases or for patients with dental anxiety, ensuring a comfortable experience.

On the day of your procedure, anesthesia will be administered. Once you are fully anesthetized, Dr. Baker or Dr. Jepsen will gently remove the tooth using methods designed to minimize trauma to the surrounding tissues. After the extraction, the area will be thoroughly cleaned, and you will receive detailed aftercare instructions to promote a smooth recovery.

Recovery After Tooth Extraction

Recovery from a tooth extraction is usually uncomplicated. To prevent infection and keep the extraction site clean, rinse your mouth with a saltwater solution as directed. Pain medication may be prescribed to help manage discomfort during the healing process. Following the provided instructions carefully will ensure optimal healing. Tooth Replacement Options After Extraction

Following a tooth extraction, it's crucial to consider replacement options to maintain oral function and avoid future complications.

Dental Implants

Dental implants are a preferred choice, providing the appearance, feel, and function of natural teeth. These implants are surgically placed into the jawbone, where they fuse with the bone to form a solid foundation for crowns or bridges. Immediate Dental Implants
