Dr. Shawn Jepsen has had many amazing experiences and adventures in his career as a Pocatello Oral Surgeon, and his knowledge and training are vast. However, he is also a down to earth family man, and enjoys being outdoors in beautiful Southeast Idaho.
Dr. Jepsen began his education to be an oral surgeon by attending Brigham Young University – Idaho. At the time, he was interested in medical science, and pursued an Associates degree in Arts & Sciences. He also left for a couple of years to serve a mission for the LDS Church in California, where he learned Spanish and became fluent in this language.
He next attended Idaho State University in Pocatello, where he received a Bachelor of Science, majoring in Zoology. It was during this time that he decided that being a dentist aligned nicely with his love of people and medicine. He chose to attend dental school at the University of Louisville School of Dentistry in Kentucky. While at Louisville, Dr. Jepsen was involved in many student organizations, and was the president of the Prosthodontic Honor Society at Phi Delta Fraternity. He buckled down and devoted himself to his studies, and graduated Magna Cum Laude in May of 2000.
Dr. Jepsen was keenly intrigued by surgery while at dental school, and he decided to continue his education in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He also was convinced to give back to his country and the community by joining the U.S. Army and implementing his skills in the military. He next went to Schofield Barracks Dental, where he received his Advanced General Dentistry (AGD). This was literally paradise, located in the center of beautiful Oahu Hawaii! Dr. Jepsen completed his residency at the Tripler Army Medical Center in Hawaii, and then moved his family to Landstuhl Germany, where he acted as a staff surgeon of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center.
While at Landstuhl, Dr. Jepsen was able to increase his skills as a surgeon dramatically, but he also used his knowledge and expertise to participate in several important research papers. One of the perks of being in Europe was also indulging his love of travel! He visited many different countries in Europe and was lucky to bring his family with him.
During his honorable Military service, Dr. Jepsen received many awards including:
After honorably serving his country, Dr. Jepsen returned to part-time civilian life in Yelm, Washington, where he practiced as an Oral Surgeon full-time, and taught Oral Surgery residents at Madigan Army Medical Center, which increased his own expertise. After all of the traveling and living all over the world, Dr. Jepsen knew that he wanted to come back to his home, so when the opportunity came up, he moved his family back to Pocatello Idaho, where he became Co-Owner of Facial and Oral Surgery Associates.
Dr. Shawn Jepsen is a native of Southeast Idaho, and grew up loving the gorgeous countryside. Many of his favorite hobbies and interests involve the outdoors, like hiking, skiing, hunting, camping, horseback-riding, fly fishing, and photography. Dr. Jepsen is also and avid gardener, and he is one of the few people in Pocatello that has an active bee keeping operation at his house! Pocatello is somewhat of a desert, so being able to keep a vibrant and beautiful garden requires a special skill-set (and bees certainly help).
When not performing oral surgery, Dr. Jepsen also loves to spend time with his beautiful wife and six wonderful children. He has been lucky to travel throughout much of the world, partially because of his distinguished military service, but also joining Dr. Baker in humanitarian efforts in South America.
